Rustington - Twinning

There has been no organised group visit in either direction during 2005 although we were pleased to host and entertain Ted and Phyllis Semple, who are ‘old friends’.

It is hoped that, following the very successful exchange visit to Los Altos by two senior students from Angmering School, arrangements can soon be made for a reciprocal visit to Rustington by American students.

This year, the Association is celebrating the fifth anniversary of the establishment of a twinning link with the Community of Künzell in Germany.  The first of two Charters was signed in Rustington in November 2002, with the second Charter signed in Künzell four months later.  The two communities take it in turn to send visiting groups, and 2007 will see a group of members travelling to Künzell.

The Association is pleased to announce that this group will be one of the largest so far, a mark of the interest in celebrating the fifth anniversary with our friends in Germany.

The Fulda Highlanders pipe and drum band, despite looking like a Scottish ‘import’ are all members of the local Künzell community and are first class players.

The Association wishes to stress that twinning is not all about entertainment and the social scene. There is a serious purpose underlying twinning activities.  Readers may be interested to learn that the Twinning Association’s actual objectives include:-

* The promotion and fostering of friendship and understanding between the residents of Rustington and our overseas twinned partners.

* The encouraging of visits by individuals and groups between the communities and the development of personal contacts, in order to broaden the mutual understanding of the cultural, recreational, educational and commercial activities of the communities.

The Association always welcomes new members and anyone interested in obtaining further information should contact Julie Armstrong, the Association’s Membership Secretary, on (01903) 787097.
