Rustington and District Twinning Association
Earlier this year we were asked by two 17 year old young women from Künzell if they could work and stay in Rustington for two weeks. It seemed quite a task at first, but two female Members agreed to accommodate them and the Managers at the Rustington Museum agreed to take them to work in the Museum and Garden Café. The Twinning Association wishes to thank the Hostesses and Managers at the Museum and Garden Café for their help in making the visit a success. The girls were so pleasant it was a real pleasure to have them stay with us.
On 14 September twelve of our members visited Künzell for four days, and were royally entertained. Trips included a day out in Frankfurt, a trip on the River Maine and a visit to the Botanical Gardens. The Group visited a Kindergarten School where children learned English from the age of five. They were greeted by the children singing English songs, and then joined their English classes. They also enjoyed a BBQ and an England -v- Germany Crazy Golf Match, with a Cup being presented to the winning team. It is hoped a group from Künzell will visit Rustington in June 2010, and fundraising events are being organised so that they can be entertained just as well i.e. a Beetle Drive on 21 November at the Guide Hall, and a Wine Tasting Evening at a venue and date to be decided. Anyone interested in joining the Twinning Association should contact the Membership Secretary Julie Armstrong on 01903 787097.

The Association wishes to stress that twinning is not all about entertainment and the social scene. There is a serious purpose underlying twinning activities. Readers may be interested to learn that the Twinning Association’s actual objectives include:-
-
The promotion and fostering of friendship and understanding between the residents of Rustington and our overseas twinned partners.
-
The encouraging of visits by individuals and groups between the communities and the development of personal contacts, in order to broaden the mutual understanding of the cultural, recreational, educational and commercial activities of the communities.
